Leadership Beyond http://leadershipbeyond.org Intimacy. Passion. Vision. Evangelism. Multiplication. Family. Stewardship. Integrity posterous.com Tue, 13 Jul 2010 10:33:42 -0700 ILI RC Tehachapi: Our International Network http://leadershipbeyond.org/ili-rc-tehachapi-our-international-network http://leadershipbeyond.org/ili-rc-tehachapi-our-international-network Friends,

This week, lift up our international network.  One of the great blessings about being involved with ILI is the connection with leaders serving the Lord in some of the most desperate places around the world.

Participating in the regional conference in Tehachapi on Sept. 3-5 are leaders involved in reaching Islam and Haiti.  Juan Sarmiento is the US Director of PM Internacional, an hispanic mission agency sending missionaries from primarily Latin America to Islam.  PMI has workers in North Africa, the Middle East, and Indonesia.  You can learn more about PMI at www.pminternacional.org.  Juan attended the regional conference in Fresno in 2009 and has been a presenter in numerous conferences since.

Another key leader is Chris Stockwell.  Chris is involved with a work of compassion in Haiti called Three Angels Children Relief.  He as on site in Haiti within days of the earthquake.  Their orphanage was one of the only structures still standing in their neighborhood after the quake and became the of care for the community.  Chris hopes to partner with other ILI partners already in Haiti to bring the conference to the work there.  Chris attended the regional conference in Santa Clarita in February of this year.  You can learn more about Three Angels at www.threeangelsrelief.org/.

Aldar and Tula Dambaev are leaders/missionaries from Mongolia.  They are currently on mission in the Mongolia/Russia/China corner.  Aldar was having trouble with his passport but hopes to be back in the US by Aug. 5th and with us in September.  Keep Aldar and Tula in prayer.  Specifically that Aldar receives his passport by diplomatic currier this week in Mongolia!

At the end of September, (Sept. 24-26) Dar and Barry Franks are hosting another Regional Conference in Sutter Creek (just south-east of Sacramento in the Gold Country.  Participating in that conference are Angel Hernandez and Suresh Kumar.  Angel is a missionary in San Antonio, Paraguay.  Suresh Kumar is a national leader headquarted in Southern India leading a work called Harvest India.  Learn more about Harvest India at www.harvestindia.org.

Our focus in ILI continues to be the lost around the world, even as we call our disciples to step up into a higher level of leadership in America.  Keep these leaders and their families in prayer, and also for the expansion of our kingdom networks around the world.

Blessings,

Kyle

It's time to ramp up the prayer support for the upcoming ILI regional conference in Tehachapi this year.  The dates are Sept 3-5.  As we begin, pray for a strong network of support in Tehachapi.  We've got the potential for new, committed partners from a number of different congregations.  The Lord has been deepening our shared work together in Tehachapi in a variety of ways.  The Walk to Emmaus is growing in a dozen or more fellowships, we've begun a feeding ministry that promises to develop broad commitment, an outreach ministry representing a number of different church labels is at work, and believers are increasingly using language that speaks of authentic fellowship beyond local church boundaries.  The upcoming ILI RC is just one more opportunity for leaders in Tehachapi to connect and envision a shared work that bring glory to God alone.

If, for whatever reason, you'd like to be dropped from this group, just let me know.

Thanks for your faithfulness,

Kyle

Wed, 21 Apr 2010 14:24:15 -0700 "Brother, Where Art Thou" http://leadershipbeyond.org/brother-where-art-thou-0 http://leadershipbeyond.org/brother-where-art-thou-0 When you think about the spread of the Gospel message by the early church missionaries, we often wonder at the rapid – nearly “viral”, in today’s terms – spread of the Good News of Jesus. Amazing, isn’t it? Of course it is, but it’s not inexplicable.

Actually the book of Acts is very clear as to how early missions moved forward with such rapidity. In Acts chapter 13, the Holy Spirit (who actually remembered the Great Commission) pushes Barnabas and Saul out of the nest in Antioch and onto the mission field in Cyprus and points beyond. We read in verse 5 that, “when they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the Synagogues of the Jews.” Repeatedly throughout the book of Acts, that networking process is repeated. We read of missionaries finding the nearest synagogue, preaching the Gospel and making disciples and friends at every step of the way. In no manner discounting the power of the Holy Spirit, the book of Acts bears witness to the effectiveness of their built-in network of relationships from synagogue to synagogue.

How fast do you suppose the Gospel would have spread, hypothetically speaking, if Barnabas and Saul refused to go because they didn’t know how to get to Cyprus, let alone find the nearest synagogue? I think at the very least – assuming that they weren’t reduced to ash by a lightning bolt from the heavens – they would be disqualified and unfit for missions service. What do you think?

We would find that heard to believe, but that exact scenario is playing itself out today. The only difference being that weare the called out missionaries and our social network isn’t synagogues, it’s the Internet. What I am talking about specifically is social networking using tools like this ILI site, Facebook and others.

The total US population is about 307 million. And 74% of us – a whopping 228 million people – are on the internet. How’s that for synagogue attendance? The global internet population is now over 1 billion souls and growing. Let’s take a look at current Facebook statistics alone:

•    More than 400 million active users
•    50% of active users log on to Facebook in any given day
•    More than 35 million users update their status each day
•    More than 60 million status updates posted each day
•    More than 3 billion photos uploaded to the site each month
•    More than 5 billion pieces of content (web links, news stories, blog posts, notes, photo albums,   etc.) shared each week
•    More than 3.5 million events created each month
•    More than 20 million people become fans of Pages each day
•    Pages have created more than 5.3 billion fans

How is that for a fertile mission field? But here is another statistic that is equally eye catching. People (think potential missionaries and mentors) over the age of 45 or 50 are virtually absent as regards internet and social networking site usage as compared to those 35 and under. They can’t or won’t get to the 1 billion global internet users because – just as in the hypothetical case I laid out above – “they can’t figure out how to find it.”  That, in my opinion is at best shocking and at worst it is downright sin.

So let’s unpack this a bit from the ILI perspective. One of our core values is “Passion for the Harvest.” In truth what kind of passion do these statistics show?  Another value highly integral to the ILI concept is “Multiplication of Leaders”. We have a whole module on Mentors, Coaches and Disciples. Now I recognize that one needn’t be a senior citizen to be a mentor, but a vast percentage of the total available Mentors and Coaches in the US are likely in the 50 + years old category. Based on usage statistics, their potential mentees and disciples are online waiting for the “Leader-who-isn’t there.” How much multiplication can you get when those most knowledgeable and experienced can’t even find the playing field?

I’d like to get some conversation going here. I’d love your feedback. Am I the only one out there who thinks it’s a sin to overlook social networking?

For those of you who don't know Chris Stockwell, he atteneded our Santa Clarita Regional Conference in February. He is  deeply involved with Three Angels Orphanage in Haiti. Click on this link for the back story.

Chris works for Morley Construction here in LA - a large construction and concrete company. They were key in giving Chris the time off and technical support he needed during his last trip to Haiti that resulted in 28 orphans being brought back to the US.

As a result of Chris' experience in the construction industry, as well as his time spent down in Haiti before and after the earthquake, he has been asked to speak at a national conference sponsored by the American Concrete Institute. These are the guys who set the standards for that industry and many large organizations will attend. The tie in with Haiti is that unlike many third world places, they do not predominately use wood or metal in building construction. Most frequently, they use concrete. As a result, Chris will be speaking on "The Construction Before and Destruction After" the Haiti earthquake.

Chris will have an opportunity to address leaders of large and influential organizations as to the state of the art in Haiti as well as his direct experiences with Three Angels Orphanage. Part of the future vision for Three Angels is to start construction on an all new facility that would include school, housing and hospital. They will need $1M to get going and probably $3-5M long term to pull that off. This is a great opportunity for God to bring some major corporate givers to the table. Chris has asked that we pray specifically for:

1. Clarity of speech
2. Understanding on the part of his audience -  many will be experts and leaders in their respective fields of study
3. That Three Angels will receive financial blessing from this talk
4. That the people of Haiti will directly benefit both monetarily and spiritually as well as by improved construction standards that could emerge
5. That Morley Construction would be viewed as the good company that they are
6. That God and God alone will get the glory

Chris is on his way to Chicago right now. Please join me in prayer for Chris over the next two days that he God will direct his path and go before him.

A message from Leadership Beyond Blog Site to all members of USA - California on MyILITeam!

We’ve started a blog called leadershipbeyond.org.  It fulfills a couple functions not served by MyILITeam.
First, the blog is a "shop window" for ILI USA, California.  Because MyILITeam is an "invitation only" social network, (but invite all who take leadership seriously!), it's way to give people some insight about our “leaders equipping leaders” community in California.

Second, it provides an easy way to record learnings, discoveries, insights, and resources around the 8 core values.    We attempt to tag each entry by one of the core values (i.e. “intimacy” around an entry focused on prayer).  What it gives us is a growing, catalogued file for training, inspiration, and talk illustrations.

If you’re sharing the ILI story with someone new, there are a couple of places you can send them on the web.  The first place is iliteam.org.  This is the home site.  There’s lots of stuff there about our leadership, the core values, and what’s happening around the world.  Another place to go is iliteamusa.org.  This is a newer site, still underdevelopment, but it provides a window into what we hope to see happen in the USA.  Finally, you can invite them to go to leadershipbeyond.org.  If things develop according to plan, it will be a rich resource for leadership training ideas and a good introduction to our community.
This message is kind of a test.  By making the blog a member of the USA, California group, group messages should automatically post to the site, capturing the wisdom we share with one another in our leadership journey together.

Hope it works!

Wed, 17 Mar 2010 12:48:56 -0700 Prayer and Opportunity http://leadershipbeyond.org/prayer-and-opportunity http://leadershipbeyond.org/prayer-and-opportunity Friends,

Writing for two reasons.

First, Al Vom Steeg has just had conversation with the pastor of a church in Santa Barbara.  They are looking to do a Regional Conference at the end of April.  This is all very new, so not much details are known.  For now just keep it in prayer.

Second, Wes Griffin, director of ILI, has asked me to pull together a USA, California group on the "MyILI" social networking site.  The site is hosted by Ning which provides organizations with a Facebook like vehicle for connecting people together.  I'll be sending you an invitation to join the site and the group.  Check it out.  Wes has high hopes that this can be a helpful vehicle for ongoing networking.  Interestingly, when you go to the site, you'll find all kinds of groups formed from all over the world.  If you're burdened for a particular region (Kenya, for example), I think you can join that group and be instantly connected to leaders from there.  That's pretty cool.  Check it out.

This is my first attempt at doing this.  If you run into a hassel, let me know.

Thanks for you faithfulness to the Kingdom,

Kyle

Mon, 22 Feb 2010 12:18:00 -0800 What a Blessing http://leadershipbeyond.org/what-a-blessing http://leadershipbeyond.org/what-a-blessing
Friends,

Thanks for your faithfulness.  Prayer is central in our lives and certainly the work of ILI.  The evil one kept throwing loopy obstacles in the way, but the Lord provided or had a plan every step of they way.  I want to share some especially powerful manifestations of the Lord's working.

From Hemet we had a couple from Mongolia who were two of the first converts in that nation.  Aldar and Tula Dambaev are focused missionaries with ongoing work in the area where Russia, Mongolia, and China meet.  They immediately caught the vision of ILI and its potential at a variety of levels.  They are serious about doing something with ILI in that part of the world.  From what I saw, they've got the passion, faith, and drive to carry out whatever the Lord lays on their hearts.  It was truly amazing.

Rodney Nashem is from Redding, Ca.  He called just two days before the conference telling me that the Lord would not let go of him.  He was wondering if there was still room.  I told him to come on and he came.  Redding is an 8 hour drive from Santa Clarita.  The Lord worked through the conference to solidify his vision to equip and empower believers from his church for the work of world evangelization.  I think he will become a solid partner and good friend.

We were especially blessed to have some exceptional presenters with us.  James Mason is on staff with the US Center for World Mission in Pasadena.  He shared "Passion for the Harvest."  While being faithful to the ILI material, he folded in information from the the US Center that really lifted up the need for the Gospel among the world's "Unreached Peoples."  Mike Brown was electrifying with "Culturally Relevant Evangelism."  He's planting a church in North Hollywood, perhaps one of the toughest mission fields in the US.  Praise God for his clarity and commitment.  Barry Franks' presentation on Stewardship was the best I've seen.  He modeled the lifestyle of faithfulness with money and time, not just talked about it.  Along with Barry, Darlene Franks and Kathy Fong were first-time presenters at an ILI RC conference.  Their excellent job affirmed that the vision for Multiplication is a right vision and ILI a worthy tool.

Be in prayer for the next ILI Regional Conference in California.  This one is a Spanish speaking conference in Bakersfield, CA.  The Hispanic community in the San Joaquin Valley has caught the vision.  Keep them in prayer as the Lord continues his work.

I'll be off the radar screen for a season.  Got to get back to my day job.  I'll let you know when the next opportunity comes up to pray for an English speaking ILI RC in California.

With great thanksgiving,

Kyle

Scott,

Sheesh.  This latest report from the Barna folks really does provide a snapshot of the crisis in the church.  Just coming from the ILI RC in Santa Clarita, the concerns posed are timely.  This statement does seem to get at a central issue:

Yet, a new study from the Barna Group identifies an underlying reason why there is little progress in helping people develop spiritually: many churchgoers and clergy struggle to articulate a basic understanding of spiritual maturity. People aspire to be spiritually mature, but they do not know what it means. Pastors want to  guide others on the path to spiritual wholeness, but they are often not clearly defining the goals or the outcomes of that process.
Folks (in the church!) really don't know what it means to be Christian.  It is an amazing indictment that we can't articulate a shared understanding of maturity.  That's why these 8 core values in ILI are so valuable.  I like to talk about them as "practices" more than values.  They really do capture the multi-layered dynamic that is Christian faithfulness or maturity.  Our lives in the grace filled kingom of Christ really does produce a lifestyle, not just "beliefs" or "feelings" but regular behaviors that are a response to the Holy Spirit's presence in the midst of us.  It really is a dynamic of fruitfulness as Christ indwells us.

When I was a youth pastor years ago my vision was "Every youth a believer, every believer a leader, and every leader a servant."  The cluster of practices captured by the inter-dynamics of the 8 core values does paint a clear picture of Christian maturity.  All are critical, intimacy, passion, evangelism, leadership, multiplication, stewardship, family, integriy.  All are to lead and love.

Lets get after it.

Kyle

2. Facility/equipment details

3. Last minute minutae

4. Open hearts ready to receive and share.

I just received Wes' weekly prayer focus showing that there are 8 conferences in the works for California in 2010.  These will be Spanish speaking conferences to help equip our hispanic brothers and sisters.  The next one is scheduled for March 25th in Bakersfield.  The vision has really taken off in the hispanic community in the San Joaquin Valley.

I hope to see three more conferences coming out of the Santa Clarita conference, in English.  Not that we need to keep pace with our hispanic brothers and sisters, but why should they have all the fun!  Keep it all in prayer.  The Lord is on the move.

We are 9 days away from the Regional Conference in Santa Clarita. The presenters, the hospitality, the facility to be used are all being prepared. Prayer in these areas are still necessary but our focus this week is on the last minute sign-ups. There are those that have not fully committed to fitting this weekend into their busy schedules. For those of us who have attended a conference in the past we know how blessed they will be in carving out the time.

Pray that God would point them towards Santa Clarita. We know that if God wants them there they will be there. AMEN!

I just got back from our Grace Fellowship Mens' Retreat.  The theme was "KIngdom Now!"  We focused on Acts 1 and 2 where we are challenged to embrace a "Kingdom view of reality" that encompasses every tongue, tribe and nation.  The power of the Holy Spirit is especially manifested when we begin to function out of the authentic unity of the church under the headship of King Jesus.  That's one of the reasons I'm committed to ILI.  Keeping in connection with you is a concrete expression of a functional unity bigger than whatever is going on in my own backyard.

As the Santa Clarita Regional Conference drasws near (Feb. 19-21), I ask you to focus with greater intensity in these final weeks.  As usual the demonic static is increasing to distract and discourage, but are wise to his wiles!

Keep praying for our hospitality needs, but in addition, pray specifically for the "mentoring leaders" and the "emerging leaders" who will be gathering.  Pray that as the conference participants spend this time together, new relationships are established.  Like most things in the kingdom, the qualities of leadership are better caught than taught.  We can (and will!) talk all day long about the eight core values of ILI and how they empower leadership, but what is really needed is to introduce experienced leaders to new leaders so that some new relationships can develop.  Authentic spiritual leadership is more art than skill.  We need to see it lived out in skin and bones to grab the importance of things like Intimacy with God and Integrity.  We need to experience up close how an effective leader guards time and stewards precious resources.   There is real encourgement and accountability in healthy coaching and mentoring relationships that move us from having some good ideas to being a transforming leader.

My guess is we have somewhere between 15 and 20 people registered to date.

Thanks for your faithfulness,

Kyle

PC: There will be participants at the conference who are active in mission in Haiti.  They've already begun talking about the possibility of bringing ILI to their network in Haiti to maximize their efforts in that desperate place.  Keep Haiti in your prayers.  What an opportunity for the Lord to reveal His glory through His people.

Greetings,

As we continue to pray for every aspect of the upcoming conference, let me remind you that there is someone who does not want to loose any more ground to the Kingdom of God. Like he has a choice. Wherever he senses the loss of real estate he will turn up the heat. I’m talking about spiritual warfare and anybody who is involved in kingdom work will feel the burn. Now the Bible tells us to “Be sober minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”  He can be in your face like “a roaring lion” causing division in churches or any number of blatant attacks thereby diverting energies and attention away from Christ’s Commission. Usually though his tactics are much more subtle like “prowling around” causing us to possibly minimize the potential of this conference, or maximizing self in those presenting, or causing last minute doubts, you get the drift.

We are just four weeks away from converging on Copperhill Community Church in Santa Clarita and I would like to ask you to pray specifically for:

The leadership at the host church as they prepare for our arrival.
  • That God would provide the necessary hospitality to accommodate the out-of-town participants.
  • That everyone involved will realize the great potential of this gathering.
  • That we would be ever mindful of the fact that, He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

God bless you as you hit your knees,

Like many Californians, when I first heard of the earthquakes in Haiti, I shrugged it off. Heck we get earthquakes all the time here in the Southland. Just as I was starting to ponder the reality that Haiti isn’t here and that their construction “values” surely wouldn’t meet the high standards we have here, the news started to pour in about the extent of physical, personal and spiritual destruction visited upon the poorest nation in our hemisphere. And, like many of you, I have been riveted to the news that immediately began saturating our airwaves and internet spaces.

As it happens, my church, Copperhill Community, has strong and abiding ties with an orphanage/school that we support down in Haiti – Three Angels. [PASSON FOR THE HARVEST] In fact, we had just had a team of folks visit the Three Angels facility just prior to Christmas to deliver presents from us and do some site evaluation to assess current and future needs. [VISIONARY LEADERSHIP] One of our guys, Eric Helgemo, also happens to be trained in Disaster Preparedness. He and others set about fixing their water cistern and filling it up. They also set up power inverters and such. Chris Stockwell, another of our team is a construction engineer who gave the facilities a once over from the perspective of future efforts to improve the facilities and structural integrity.

Part of the role of the orphanage is to find adoptive parents [FAMILY PRIORITY] in the US. And of about 30 orphans there, I believe that 26 had families in the US ready and waiting for paperwork to clear Haitian and US channels. Two of those adoptive families are from our church. Thanks to Facebook (the tool we all love and hate at the same time) we were getting minute by minute reports on the status of the children and care givers. Shannon Hoffman, who is our key Three Angels supporter and go to person here at Copperhill, met with our body a few nights ago as we committed to a prayer vigil for the Three Angels operation and Haiti in general. She gave us some additional – and, at times, heartbreaking – background. Three Angels is not just an orphanage and school for local children. [CULTURALLY RELEVANT EVANGELISM] It also is deeply involved in the local community. Many of the locals line up for medical and other attention every day. We prayed for a lot of things, not the least of which were the school children and workers who were in their homes at the time the earthquakes hit. Many are still unaccounted for. Their primary need then as now, is for cash. [STEWARDSHIP]

Also as it happens, Shannon’s husband, Gary is a radio announcer on KFI with Bill Handel, who graciously provided abundant air time and coverage of the Haiti disaster and Three Angels needs in specific – especially their need for cash. Earlier that evening, I got a call from a friend in a faith based organization that I belong to who saw our Facebook postings and asked me to call a relative of his who is a reporter in Fresno looking for content. They shared with their audience same of the facts that we had and the Three Angels need for donations and support. And the Body of Christ began to respond.

We also prayed for Chris Stockwell, who would be a member of a four person team to go back to Haiti the following day to assess the damage and to bring those orphans, hopefully, back to the US. They “managed” to find a mission aviation flight into Haiti. They “managed” to get to the orphanage and found that while the building did not collapse, the rest of the neighborhood was in ruins. That all of the children at the orphanage got out in time and were being watched over by onsite caregivers is simply the act of a merciful God. Working sources in the Haiti and US governments, the 26 children were taken to the embassy in Haiti, provided with paperwork and clearance to leave. They “managed” to get on another mission aviation flight out and landed in Florida yesterday. Today, as I write this, two of our local families are on their way back to Santa Clarita with their adoptive children; 24 others to families across the US! [INTEGRITY]

In a meeting last night, I was told by Gary Hoffman, that donations for Three Angels are in the vicinity of $250,000.00, to date. The orphanage and school will need to be rebuilt and expanded to accommodate the new orphans and care givers [MULTIPLICATION OF LEADERSHIP] who will flood into the system in Haiti. Fortunately the building was leased and plans are being made to secure the well being of many lost, hurting and hungry souls still In Haiti today and for the future. That is why I am encouraging continued donations to Three Angels. There are many good charitable organizations in Haiti, but giving to Three Angels assures you that your donations will go directly to the point of need. Please be generous and as Three Angels pick themselves up out of the dust and rubble, you might consider sponsoring an orphan or two – sadly there will be many in need.

We live in a fallen world; a world that is “under the curse” and that includes earthquakes, tsunamis and other tragic events. (Read Romans 8:18-30 for Paul’s take on this). Yet, we serve a master who is, even as we speak, actively redeeming all of creation and all of his people. So, some may ask, where is Jesus in all of this? I look at all of the events surrounding Three Angels; all of the people involved and all of the other relief efforts on going and I say: Jesus is among us.

[For those of you attending the ILI Regional Conference at Copperhill in February, you might be interested to know that the topics shown above in brackets [INTIMACY WITH GOD], are specific core values that we will discuss at our conference, as displayed in the incredible story of Three Angels. That should make you feel good about attending.]

    Mon, 11 Jan 2010 12:01:00 -0800 Weekly Prayer Request: ILI Regional. Santa Clarita, Feb. 19-21,2010 http://leadershipbeyond.org/weekly-prayer-request-ili-regional-santa-clar http://leadershipbeyond.org/weekly-prayer-request-ili-regional-santa-clar

HOSPITAL'ITY, n. [L. hospitalitas.] The act or practice of receiving and entertaining strangers or guests without reward, or with kind and generous liberality.

    Noah Webster Dictionary

Our prayer request for this week focuses on hospitality. Our pattern has been to have local members of the church host our out of town attendees, as an act of hospitality  consistent with the Gospel. This is an act of agape love and is, for our culture sadly, not a discipline that we typically attend to. We tend to see ourselves as somehow removed from obligation to our brothers and sisters for a whole host of cultural reasons.

Yet, the Bible(and many other cultures) treat hospitality as a most important act of corporate concern for humanity. Intimacy with God is one of our core values that we teach at ILI. And what better way to demonstrate our love of God than opening up our homes and lives to brothers and sisters in Christ – being open to intimacy with the Body of Christ. Some great scriptures include:

    ·         Romans 12:13 – we are to be …’given to hospitality’

    ·         Matthew 10:40-42 – what Jesus has to say about hospitality to his disciples: ‘He who receives you, receives me and he who receives me receives Him who sent me.”

    ·         Hebrews 13:2 – what the author of Hebrews has to say: ‘Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing, some have entertained angels.’

Let’s lift up a prayer of supplication this week that the doors of hospitality – Jesus style – will be thrown open to us. Even to those of us “angels” who may have a rust spot or two on our halos!

    Blessings,

This comes from a friend in Hawaii.

from the founder of the Salvation Army, William Booth, who died in 1912.
    This would be apropos today:

“In answer to your inquiry, I consider that the chief dangers which confront the coming century will be religion without the Holy Ghost, Christianity without Christ, forgiveness without repentance, salvation without regeneration, politics without God, and heaven without hell.”

As we continue to roll into the 21st century, we face the issues born in the last.  What are the chief dangers confronting us in our day?  One among others certainly includes the abdication of responsiblity in the face of increasing cenralized authority in almost all domains of life: government, work, education, church.  We must feel the burden of life as ours, not be shifted to higher powers and authorities.  When we see reaching the lost as our responsibility, passion for the harvest will be born.  When we feel the burden of an apathetic culture, we'll yearn to be visionary leaders.  When we know how powerless we are to face the challenges that surround us, we'll yearn for intimacy with God.
